Supply & installation

Commercial and Industrial Roller Shutters

A shutter that is right for the opening, the traffic and the exposure will outlast a cheaper one several times over.

Access Opening Solutions supplies and installs roller shutters for retail units, warehouses, factories and service yards across Dublin. Specification starts with how the opening is used — cycle frequency, vehicle traffic, security requirement, exposure and whether insulation or visibility matters.

Because we also repair and maintain shutters every day, our specification decisions are informed by what actually fails on Dublin sites rather than by a catalogue alone.

Curtain types and where they suit

Solid single-skin curtains

Cost-effective security for yards, stores and back-of-house openings where insulation and visibility are not required.

Insulated double-skin curtains

Foam-filled slats for heat retention and noise reduction on heated buildings and external openings.

Punched and perforated curtains

Retail units and shopping centres where the display must remain visible while the unit is secured.

Brick-bond and lattice grilles

Maximum visibility with a physical security barrier, common in centre units and arcades.

Specification considerations we work through with you

  • Opening size, structural fixing points and available headroom for the barrel
  • Duty cycle — how many times a day the door will be operated over its life
  • Drive selection: tube motor, side drive or manual operation, single or three phase
  • Control method: key switch, push-button station, remote, induction loop or access-control integration
  • Safety requirements including safety edges, photocells and manual release for power failure
  • Exposure, wind loading and corrosion risk at coastal or open sites

Installation process

  • Site survey and measurement of the structural opening, not just the existing door
  • Written specification of curtain, drive, controls and safety devices
  • Agreed installation window, including out-of-hours where trading cannot be interrupted
  • Removal and disposal of the existing shutter where applicable
  • Installation, setting of limits and balance, and testing of all safety devices
  • Handover with operating instructions and recommended servicing intervals

Getting the specification right first time

Most premature shutter failures we attend come from a small number of specification errors. Being aware of them makes a real difference to the cost of ownership.

  • Under-specified drives on high-cycle openings, which overload and fail early
  • No impact protection at guide level in areas with forklift or trolley traffic
  • Manual operation chosen for a door too heavy to be operated comfortably by staff
  • External control gear installed without suitable weather protection
  • No planned maintenance arranged after installation, so wear goes unnoticed

Questions we are asked

Commercial & Industrial Roller Shutters — FAQs

Can you replace a shutter without closing the premises?

In most cases, yes. Installations are regularly scheduled out of hours so the unit can trade normally.

Do you install shutters you did not supply?

We repair and maintain almost any make. For new installations we supply equipment we can support with parts and servicing.

Should we choose insulated or single-skin?

It depends on whether the opening is in the heated envelope and how long it stays open. We will set out the trade-off honestly rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.

Do new shutters include safety devices?

Safety provision is specified for the door and its environment, and every device is tested before handover.
